How to know if a runny nose is contagious?

June 2nd, 2010 by admin

My children get a runny nose what seems like every two to three months. My daughter is 3 and has had a clear runny nose all day. I am supposed to go out of town this weekend, so how do I know if my child is contagious?

Clear is usually ok. If it yellowish or green that means sick

Clear is what you are looking for. Runny noses are common especially when children have allergy problems. If it starts to change to a yellow or greenish color then you may need to talk to your pediatrician as this can signal the beginning of something more. If you haven’t already talked to him about your daughter having allergies, I would. He may be able to give you something or recommend something to help out with them. I’m not trying to advocate putting children on medication but unfortunately I have a 5 & 6 year old who suffer from allergies and I have to give them allergy medication on a regualr basis to keep them from having runny noses.
