What causes post nasal drip?

September 6th, 2010 by admin

Is there a cure for this?

The mechanism for post nasal drip is excessive mucus caused by the sinuses. The causes can be: rhinitis (a cold), sinusitis and allergies. The cure depends on the cause and a visit to your otolaryngologist or family physician would be required since treatment could include antibiotics, nasal irrigation or minor surgery.

For temporary relief at home, just drink plenty of fluids. You can also take sudafed, available at any drug store. Be sure to follow the directions exactly. Also, be aware that it will only relieve the symptoms, not cure the issue.
