Soar throat from sinusitis or allergies. How do I get rid of it?

May 21st, 2010 by admin

I have the soarest throat ever from all the drainage from either sinusitis or allergies (it just started raining everyday, which can trigger them for me). My tonsils are really swollen but just red, they don’t have white spots. I have a headache, in the front of my head, and i’m tired a hell. No fever or anything.

I can deal with all of it, just this soar throat is awful. It’s just so dry like I don’t wanna talk or sleep or anything.

Is there anything that can relieve my soar throat. I gargled with listerine and I’ve heard hot salt water can help but is there anything else?
I don’t really want to numb the throat I want to make the soreness heal quicker.

And If you don’t want to answer the question, then don’t post anything. Thanks.

What causes the sore throat is mucus draining down the back of it. During allergy season, allergens cause a histamine reaction in your head, causing increased mucus production….leading to sinusitis. What you need to do is to thin the mucus or get rid of it all together. To thin the mucus, try a product containing guaifenesin (ie Mucinex). To decrease the mucus, take an OTC antihistamine such as Allevert, Claritin, Benedryl, ect. To dry up the mucus that is already there, get something with a decongestant like Pseudoephedrine or Phenylephrine (Sudafed). I, personally take Claritin-D 24hr every day when I wake up during allergy season when it gets bad. And I take a 25mg Benedryl before I lay down to sleep (they make me sleepy). Hope this helps!

ok, most propably you have sinusitis, because you have this sorethroat and headache, its an infection which increases the production of mucus, making you having these symptoms, its not nessessery to have fever, for this take:
1.antibiotic like amoxicillin or augmentin, 500mg three times perday for 7 days
2.antihistamine like actifed, which contains pseudoephidrene
take 1 tab in the morning and 1 before you sleep,it helps alot to decrease the secretions and make you sleep
note:DO NOT TAKE 2 ANTIHISTAMINES like the nurse said,
    it may cause severe hypotension
    3.of you have cough,take mucolyte syrup,3 times/day
    4.have warm drinks

I feel your pain . I have suffered with a sore throat for the past two days all oang thinking it was just my sinuses i had enough yesterday and went to the doctor and found that i had bronchitis.Gargling with salt water seems to ease the throat a bit. but the first thing is you need to find out what is causing the actual drainage .Meaning maybe they can give you something for your allergies or sinuses. If you relieve the cause the sooner your throat will feel better. good luck to you:)

I’ve been dealing with sinusitis for 10 years (two operations) and from what I can read, I think you really need to go to see a doctor and get a prescription for ANTIBIOTICS it is going to cure the problem from the source, at its core. Otherwise you will have to wait a long until it goes away, and it’s very tiring…
